Those who can't, blog

Needless to say, my title says it all. Ye Ole Pirate has been out on the blue waters of NE Florida and SE Georgia slamming the heck out of the grouper, snapper, trigger fish, flounder and cobia and it has left very little time for writing in this blog. I missed the entire month of July. We have been so busy baiting, casting, reeling, gaffing and fileting the Mate hasn't even had time to snap decent pics or download what he has from his camera.

I did have Wanda (Mrs. Captain Steve) come down to the docks this past Thursday (9/06/09) to get a few pics of this smiling family showing off their 'best of' their catch. The coolers were full with keepers but the fish in the pics were their favorites.

Pretty good for a family of first timers!

Here's another respectable catch from last week.

It has been an excellent summer for fishing as the grouper and snapper have decided to stick around rather than head off for cooler water as they usually do come late summer. It has given Ye Ole Pirate the option to bottom fish and troll increasing the overall catch. It also gives plenty of opportunity to the different styles of fishing that different people enjoy.

I will leave you with a picture of our "Catch of the Week" & "Catch of the Month" so far. It's still early in the month so anything can still happen. A nice cobia-

I'll get back to blogging when I get a few minutes and the fish aren't keeping all of us here on Ye Ole Pirate quite so busy.

Bottom fishing offshore produced nice catches of grouper, red snapper, sea bass and trigger fish to name just a few.

It's been reported that "summer tarpon weighing over 100 pounds and king mackerel up to 50 pounds have been numerous at both the St. Mary's Inlet and the Nassau Inlet". Ye Ole Pirate is getting ready for some of this action come July. We are running a few specials in July. Give us a call for the July specials.

If you're looking for some exciting shark action, you'll get plenty of attention from a variety of shark species this month. The big ones are in and they're hungry.

Excellent weather and calm seas have produced full coolers of sea bass, grouper, snapper, trigger fish and shark. The inshore charters produced very nice catches of bull whiting even with the water still being muddy from days and days of rain from tropical storm Anna. The Spanish Mackerel have been abundant but very finicky and elusive.

Returning from Sunday's 3/4 day offshore trip, some nice sized cobia and barracuda were spotted hanging around the channel markers (inshore) between Cumberland Island and Amelia Island. Ye Ole Pirate will be back looking for them later this week with the inshore trips. We are also expecting to see some respectable kingfish soon.

Cut up pogie worked best with the grouper and snapper and the sea bass were hitting hard on the squid. My Mate had a good work out helping some first timers get their catches into the boat and not one keeper was lost.
The early morning action was fast, furious and non-stop with more keepers than throw backs. The early afternoon produced more action and less keepers but still provided a very respectable catch.

New Record for Drum?

An article from the "News-Leader"
